Lissage (~smoothing/ironing)

Description

• The lissage - or finition lissée - gives a smoothed surface, optically as to the touch, sometimes even glittering
• The lissage is done after a fine compacting (with feather edge rule) or, better, after a coupage.
• It's done dry with or without a light spraying of clean water, or after feutrage with sponge board.
• According the technic, the lissage is more or less smooth and more or less cloudy : a real scale test is thus to be made.

Tips

• The feutrage creating a large amount of "cream" allow to fill every holes or uneveness of the surface but imply a second smoothing : after 30/60 mn, lightly spary the surface with water and smoothe again, keeping in mind to remove the extra-crem as one goes along.

Needed tools

• Stainless smoother, beveled if possible, quite rigid for traditionnal smoothing (softer smoothers are used for humpy smoothing as tadlakt)
• Sponge board
• Spray
• Clean polishing cloth
